Edison’s greatest challenge

Categories: Danny Sez... | October 30th, 2008 | by admin | no comments

Danny loves to talk while we’re on long car rides. This is a jewel from one of our conversations today..

“It must have been hard for Edison to make a lightbulb while he was working the dark.”

You know, I never thot of that.

Oma’s

Categories: Life is Good! | October 30th, 2008 | by admin | no comments

This was our second year at Oma’s Pumpkin Patch at the Van Ommering Dairy Farm.  www.omaspumpkinpatch.com

If you live in San Diego and you haven’t been, well you really should go.  The kids enjoyed it even more this year and it was neat for me to be able to compare all the things they can do this year that they couldn’t last year, or see how much better they can do them.

They love teaming up with all the kids in the huge hay maze for games of hide & seek. Carly can slide down the cotton seed hill this year in a sled and Danny goes down standing up like a snow board.  They are very aware of and excited about celebrating holidays and are looking forward to carving a pumpkin with Grandpa tomorrow. We visited Mike & Nina, who had huge spiders decorating the the outside of their house. Danny said, “Stand back Mom, let me check these out. It’s okay, they are huge black widows but they’re fake so it’s safe for you and Carly to come close.” Phew!

I found this adorable book today, The Pumpkin Patch Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs. Evidently she has a whole series. It’s a beautiful, parable, brings the Bible into the pumpkin tradition and I have to get more of them.

of princesses

Categories: Life is Good! | October 24th, 2008 | by admin | no comments

Carly is a 24/7 princess at the moment. Danny alternates between graciously playing along and trying to “keep it real”. Yesterday I overheard him informing her…

Danny: You know, Carly, princesses are kind of like dinosaurs and dragons, there aren’t that many alive any more, in fact I think they might all be dead.

Carly: No, Danny, me is a princess and me is not dead.

Danny: But, Carly, you’re not a real princess in a castle. I think all the real ones are extinct. I’m gonna ask Mom. MOM, are all the real princesses dead?

We launch into a discussion about royalty, pull out the globe and point out some countries that still have a monarchy etc. The next day we were at Starbucks (honey, I only got a small coffee of the day - I’m on a very tight budget, heh) and Danny overhears some folks talking about how England is one of those countries that still has a “king and queen” so he chipped in, “Um excuse me, England only has a queen.”

Then today we went to a birthday party and he was talking to his 5 yr old friend Kyla, “You know what’s so funny about princesses, Kyla? They are so fancy but they only have one dress.” I guess he’s referring to how the Disney princesses are always shown in the same signature dress.

camping

Categories: Life is Good! | October 10th, 2008 | by admin | no comments

We were blessed with being able to get away for a couple days of camping with the kids in Baja. Check out this beautiful campground that we stayed at.

http://www.lascanadas.com/

It has it’s own water park that’s just the perfect size for kids ages 2-8, the water is never too deep and there are a variety of slides. We spent every afternoon of our vacation there. And every morning in the pool! Will post photos soon.
